Every runner has their preference for what time of day is best to run. Some love the morning, some prefer afternoons whilst others like to run in the evening after getting home from work. I usually get up at AM, run for at least 30 minutes, return home and then start my day charged and ready go to. I recently listened to a podcast with David Goggins, who said something which made me think about my morning running habits. He is known for turning his life around by going from a pound loser rodent exterminator to a hardened Navy seal in under a couple of years. In the podcast, Goggins said every day of our lives we come across challenges and obstacles.

I really wanted to dislike Jesse Itzler. The very premise of the book annoyed me: Mr. Itzler, a something, incredibly successful entrepreneur, former white rap star, and ultra-marathoner hired a Navy SEAL to live with his family and get him into the best physical and mental shape of his life. To me, this smacked of a guy who had more dollars than sense. But I kept my mouth shut and schlepped up to an upscale Harlem pizza joint.
I've included quotes and from both the book and the audiobook, which has some off-the-cuff commentary delivered by Goggins himself in his usual highly animated and emphatic style, full of swear words. Warning: I will not edit out David Goggins' swearwords. They are part and parcel of him. If you don't like them, don't listen to him, and don't read this. Goggins doesn't want you to motivated.

David Goggins born February 17, is an American ultramarathon runner, ultra-distance cyclist, triathlete, motivational speaker and author. He is a former world record holder for the most pull-ups done in 24 hours. His self-help memoir, Can't Hurt Me , was released in Goggins served in Iraq. After several of his friends died in Afghanistan in a helicopter crash in during Operation Red Wings ,  Goggins began long-distance running with the aim of raising money for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation.
