It was Wednesday. The craziest day of the week for me. And the kids actually. Everyone always assumes that if a mom is running around with their kids it must be sports. I also squeeze in homework and dinner. But … Not the point. The point is that I finally got to sit down not in my car.

Peripheral edema is swelling of your lower legs or hands. The cause may be simple, such as sitting for too long on a plane or standing for too long. Or it may involve a more serious underlying disease. Edema occurs when something disrupts the usual balance of fluids in your cells. As a result, an abnormal amount of fluid accumulates in your tissues interstitial space. Gravity pulls the fluid down into your legs and feet. Peripheral edema is common in older adults and pregnant women, but it can occur at any age.
Patient is a female cross country runner. Chief complaint is that she noticed large indentations starting to form on her calf in two places. The more proximal indentation appeared first, about three days ago and appears to be getting larger. The second indentation appeared yesterday. The patient said they are a little bit sore, but there is no pain at all with running or after running. She is slowly increasing her mileage, but has not made any recent drastic changes in training surface, shoes, or mileage. No history of previous injury to the lower extremity.

It can also be the result of medication, pregnancy, or another underlying condition, like kidney disease or cirrhosis of the liver. It can also be caused by medications to control blood pressure or by an allergic reaction. If you have any of these symptoms, make an appointment to see your doctor. However, you should seek medical attention immediately if you experience these along with shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, or chest pain. The blood can then back up in the legs, ankles, and feet, which leads to swelling, or edema.

Good morning, I have what appears to be a "dent" on each of my legs on the outside of my shin bone. There is no pain or discomfort. I used to get shin splints very easily but since I have dropped a significant amount of weight, I can walk, run, jog, sprint, swim, elliptical, and bike with no shin splint related issues. These "dents" are visibly deeper after my leg day of my workout routine. I have attached some pictures as well. Any thoughts? I have lost 75 pounds in about a year, and have been actively working out times per week for several months with a rest week of no physical activity every weeks.
