The applied experience requirement gives students practical public health exposure by allowing them to work in the field with public health professionals. There are a number of student groups at Johns Hopkins related to public health. Our students are involved in everything from research to advocacy to community service, in Baltimore and beyond. Public health combines a prevention orientation with a population perspective in pursuit of better health for all members of society. Students also take coursework in Social Sciences, Biology and Calculus. Students will select additional public health coursework from a range of options that include the global health, demography, health economics, medical sociology, history, and politics. About two-thirds of Public Health Studies majors complete the premedical core curriculum. Public Health Studies majors also complete the Public Health Applied Experience as part of their undergraduate degree requirements.

Doctor of Public Health (DrPH)

The Doctor of Public Health DrPH degree program at the Bloomberg School is designed for the student who already has an MPH or equivalent degree and who intends to pursue a leadership position as a public health professional. Through the integration and application of a broad range of knowledge and analytical skills in leadership, policy, program management and professional communication, coupled with preparation in a specific public health field, graduates of the DrPH program are prepared for either domestic or international careers in public agencies or private sector settings that emphasize improving population health., The Bloomberg School offers additional degree programs for students interested in combining various fields and disciplines — from medicine and public health to international relations and public health.
